It is a cove on the northwest shore, isolated by high cliffs and accessible only by boat. The beach and sea floor are made of white pebbles, and surrounded by turquoise waters. It is named after a shipwreck , which sunk on the shore around 1980. The ridge area from\u00a0<a title=\"Anafonitria\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anafonitria\">Anafonitria<\/a>\u00a0has a small observation deck which overlooks the shipwreck, and there is a monastery nearby. The unique and stunning visuals of the location are a favourite for BASE jumpers, and each year a major event in the BASE calendar is held at Navagio, around the end of August.<sup class=\"noprint Inline-Template Template-Fact\"><i><a title=\"Wikipedia:Citation needed\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Citation_needed\"><span title=\"This claim needs references to reliable sources. (June 2015)\"><br \/><\/span><\/a><\/i><\/sup><\/p><p>Numerous natural &#8220;Blue Caves&#8221;, are cut into cliffs around Cape\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Skinari (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Skinari&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Skinari<\/a>, and accessible only by small boats. Sunrays reflect through blue sea water from white stones of cave bottoms and walls, creating visual lighting effects.\u00a0<a title=\"Keri, Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keri,_Greece\">Keri<\/a>\u00a0is located in the far south of the island. It is a mountain village and has a lighthouse in the south. It includes a panorama of the southern part of the\u00a0<a title=\"Ionian Sea\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ionian_Sea\">Ionian Sea<\/a>. The whole western shore from Keri to Skinari contains numerous interesting\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Rock formations\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rock_formations\">rock formations<\/a>, including arches.<\/p><div class=\"thumb tright\"><div class=\"thumbinner\"><div class=\"thumbcaption\">Cliffs and stone arches at cape\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Marathia, Zakynthos (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Marathia,_Zakynthos&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Marathia<\/a>.<\/div><\/div><\/div><p>Northern and eastern shores feature numerous wide sandy beaches, some of which attract tourists in summer months. The largest resort is\u00a0<a title=\"Laganas\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laganas\">Laganas<\/a>, whose beach stretches around 10 kilometres (6 miles). Small Xigia beach in the north is noted for its underwater springs rich in\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sulphur\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sulphur\">sulphur<\/a>, giving a distinct odour.\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Marathonissi (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Marathonissi&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Marathonissi<\/a>\u00a0islet (also known as &#8220;Turtle Island&#8221;) near\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Limni Keriou (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Limni_Keriou&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Limni Keriou<\/a>\u00a0contains tropical vegetation, turquoise waters, beaches, and sea caves.\u00a0<a title=\"Bochali\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bochali\">Bochali<\/a>\u00a0hill above the Zakynthos town contains a small Venetian castle and offers panoramic views of the town.
